Information

Poros is part of the group of island called Argo - Saronic islands. Like Aegina, Hydra and Spetses, Poros lies in a strategic location, permitting it to have control of both the Saronic Gulf and the Argolic Gulf, location from where this group of island took its name (Argo-saronic). Believed to be the island of Poseidon, Poros is a beautiful and interesting island and has many sights, beaches and a wonderful landscape to offer.

Spetses: its ancient name was Pityoussa (meaning pine-clad).

The island\'s actual name is a derivation from "Isola de Spezzie" (Fragrant island), a name given by the Venetian because of the many herbs growing on the mountains of the island.

Hydra Town, capital and port of the island of Hydra, is the only true village of the island. This is mostly due to the fact that the whole island is closed to any kind of motorised vehicles and doesn't have any roads, except from donkey paths. The village of Hydra is a paradise - like place, protected by a special preservation order. It is full of traditional red-tiled houses, old mansions and stone-paved narrow alleys.

Aegina is a beautiful, fertile and verdant island, full of pine trees and olive trees, picturesque villages, fine beaches and interesting archaeological monuments such as the beautiful Temple of Aphaia, built in the 5th century BC, and considered as the finest archaeological monument of the Saronic Gulf and the Aegean.
